Claflin University Common Reader Day — “On the Hilltop High”
On October 21, I had the distinct honor of spending an unforgettable day at Claflin University for Common Reader Day. This year, my book Beyond the Western Wall was selected as the common reader for Presidential Scholars, Honors College students, Class Officers, and the Class of 2029.
From engaging conversations on leadership, resilience, confidence, and career exploration to a heartfelt fireside chat with President Dr. Dwaun Warmack, the day was filled with meaningful connections and inspiring dialogue. I was especially moved by the opportunity to share my personal journey and sign copies of my book for so many bright, passionate students.
Returning to my alma mater—where I spent four transformative years as a student and 25 incredible years as president—was truly a full-circle moment. Claflin continues to shine as a beacon of excellence, and I’m proud to be part of its enduring legacy.
